Looking at the reviews for the three crock pot, it looks like it has some potential problems.

I did see some reviews that said the 3-in-1 had hot spots, but I saw many more that said it didn't. Given that people are always quicker to complain than to praise, I'm impressed with the amount of positive feedback it has gotten.
And it got the best feedback of all --
"I received my crockpot several months ago and didn't use it right away. The second time I used it, it stopped heating about midway through a cooking time. I called Hamilton Beach and talked to a wonderful service rep who advised me to return the base only with an explanation that I had no receipt for the purchase but had only used the cooker twice as was evidenced by the newness of the base. I did as she instructed and just received a whole new cooker not just a base. Got more than I expected for sure."
Stuff goes wrong. I expect that not every item will be perfect. I want to know that the manufacturer is going to fix the ones that fell through the cracks.
Just my 2¢.
I did like the programmable, too, but I'm home all day, so that feature didn't seem as important.

Here's another thought. My Sanyo rice cooker has a crockpot feature in it (it has a special bowl that's small, but great for two). And it makes the best porridge, esp. steel cut oats around. And, of course, it's a great rice cooker. If you're looking for either a small one or a second one, this is a good two-for-one appliance.

Just weighing in....went out today, and stopped at Sears (I had a 10% coupon) the CA 3.5 was on sale $49 plus coupon was $44. Very happy purchase. Will report back.
