A Southwest style leftover mash up- corn, black beans and shredded sweet potato sauteed with onion and leftover roast beef, seasoned with cumin, dried cilantro and chili powder. My sister in law really doesn't have much in the way of spices. Not as popular as the lo-mein from Tuesday, but I'll eat it for breakfast for the next couple of days.

Last night was champagne and cocktail foods. Today I made whole wheat pasta with broccoli, black olives, garlic, chillies, tangerine zest + a bit of juice and pine nuts. Played the game, hmmm, what can I put in this pasta.
I did have the most excellent lunch though. I was shopping and on a tight schedule so I stopped at this place called Brezel König (Pretzel King) and had a big soft pretzel that was covered with salt and pumpkin seeds. I have been trying to cut down so that big chunk of carby goodness was a real treat and Brezel König makes the best I've ever had. I wonder this carb feast I have been having today (I also got into the toffee my friend Anne made) has anything to do with my intense desire to crawl up in a ball and go to sleep?

Made the sardines last night. They tasted like... sardines. I think Kathy was a little disappointed.

Sardines that tasted like sardines? Oh the injustice of it all. You guys should go ahead and get that dog, it is a nice destination for such things. Tonight it's scrambled eggs and ham. Tomorrow hubby is gone so it might be popcorn or cold beans out of a can. I'll start again on Sunday and cook a proper dinner.

Pete,
Yeah, don't buy frozen sardines. Come visit here in the fall and I'll do you nice fresh sardines wrapped in grape leaves and charcoal-grilled. Only way to eat them, really.
Tonight I made a French-style white bean soup with pistou. And, since it's Friday night, we had it with challah. I didn't make that though; it's from House of Bagels.

On days when Geekboy has to work the 3-12 shift we have farm-style dinner at 1:00. So for supper last night I had leftover chicken and rice while Cary had whole wheat cracker and cheese sandwiches and an apple. I was actually going to give him some chicken and rice too, but it takes about an hour to eat an apple when you have to go at it with two and a half teeth. By then he was more than ready for the sack.

Oh, white bean soup, that sounds good. Soup is in my near term plans; good lunches too! My last soup was a butternut squash puree from Splendid Soups. I was unimpressed. It has *8* slices of bread for6 servings in it to thicken it. I had to add a lot of stock to make it into something other then a solid (just get it to spoon level), and it is slightly gritty and kind of, almost, doughy. Mostly wrong altogether. The taste was very butternut squash-y, not a bad thing, but fairly unidimensional. It would have been much better as a tablespoon dollop in another dish/plating.

Paul,
I have a recipe for Squash Soup with Green Onion and Gorgonzola that is to die for. No bread...thickened with stock and half-and-half. Let me know if you want the recipe.

Amy,
Post it here since we all want the recipe. Please let it be made with Gorgonzola Dolce!

Yes, please Amy! Sounds as though it really would be to do die for.
