I ordered 5 shanks from my butcher and when I went to pick them up, the bill was $86.00....I paid for it with a straight face, but screamed in pain when I got in the car.

Ouch, Ilene! I am glad it turned out well, I've only made OB once, and I had to order from Lobel's, so I am commiserating. I thought the gremolata was excellent, as well.

Ilene,

I always take a deep breath as I leave there...and I never look at the bill. But, they do have the most amazing product.

I always use them for special orders and know I will pay more...its just that I can't remember when the last time I bought veal and just didn't realize how expensive it would be. There were only 3 of us for dinner and I wanted leftovers which is why I order 5 shanks. Fortunately there is a shank and a half left for me to enjoy.

Last night-steak & shrimp. Yawn. Tonight, herb crusted pork loin, bread is perking, and, skippety do dah, I found flanken short ribs! So I'll be making kalbi to stash for a coming weeknight meal. :D

Hey, if you went out it would be easy to rack up a $100 bill at a decent restaurant, and I'll be this was a lot better then a 'decent' restaurant.

Bruchetta from toasted Acme "herb slab" topped with roasted tomato, fresh tomato, green garlic and olive oil. (our grocer is carrying Acme bread, yaaay).

Spaghetti squash (shredded) with butter, shallots, garlic, parsley, rosemary and pecorino romano.

Mineral water, no wine. I think I'm fighting a cold, still.
