From the LATimes is a refreshing statement of 'new rules' they will follow and urge readers to do as well. Key points: headnotes, weight measurements, salts, ingredients lists, substitutions, and water.
Quote:
The key takeaway from all this: Read every part of a recipe before you cook to ensure the greatest chance of success.

We've been considering subscribing to the LA Times just for the food section.

We should talk - probably the worst subscription I have with regards to communicating about my subscription. They always try to renew without permission. It may be smoother with you living in USA. I always signup for one of their ridiculously low ‘introductory’ specials.
I last subscribed for some 4 month special and immediately diarized to cancel after 3 months because it usually takes 2-3 weeks to get through to someone. If you don't’, they will renew at full price!!! Then you get the joy of electronic arguing . . .
If you do subscribe, create a folder and save all correspondence.

I subscribed with a special offer once and when I tried to cancel at the end of the trial, they offered me a really good deal if I continued...less than 1/2 of what they were going to charge. It was too good to pass up!

Mr. Fuzzy - You might really enjoy The Guardian.com

Otto has a frequent column and many other veg recipes are featured frequently. It’s free and Terry & I think it is the best news source world-wide. It encourages subscribing but all articles are free. We subscribe because of their attitude towards good journalism.

I already support the Guardian.

WaPo's food section is pretty good too.
