First ripe tomato of the year - at least my 3 yr old grandson thought so. We'll serve it sliced on a separate dish with s&p, slivers of basil and the Italian flag. He's so proud of himself. fitzie

How sweet, Fitzie. Tonight I made lamb souvlaki with grilled pitas, grape tomatoes, yogurt, feta and red onions. Oh, and red wine

Sautéed summer squash, Cesar salad and broiled salmon. Tonight is bunny braised in white wine with herbs and spiced pork belly. A funky shaped pasta to soak up sauce.

Eggplant Parmesan made with beautiful eggplant from the farmer's market. Tried a new method. Instead of the flour/egg/breadcrumb routine, you simply lightly flour quarter inch slices of eggplant and fry until golden brown. Simple and delicious. fitzie

Had friends over for dinner and started with lemon foccacio and a chive cheese and spicy pecan spread. Made Tim's roast chicken on the Weber Kettle and also grilled Olathe Sweet Corn (served with lime butter). Made a caprese salad with roasted tomatoes. Pretty good dinner topped off with Lemon Verbena ice cream made using Jeni's technique and the Barefoot's Macaroons. The weather gods were kind, so we could eat in the garden and enjy a perfect Colorado evening. ilene

I'm really enjoying having a gas grill available. So I made this: http://smittenkitchen.com/2011/07/charr ... dish-slaw/I changed the recipe by charring the corn on the grill, which was considerably easier than doing it over the stove. It was terrific. You wouldn't expect corn-filled tacos to be good (seems like too much of the same flavor), but they were.
