Todd,

Google gives me nothing. Who is she?

It would help if I spelled her name correctly. Here is a link to one of her books.

Ah, Sherry Yard.

Kris read one of her cookbooks. Did a fairly good job of converting for the home cook, but most of her desserts are complicated special-occasion things.

Todd,

I'm going to revise this now that Kris has read the rest of the cookbook. She gave it a big "thumbs down"; after the first few recipes, the rest become very restauranty with quantities like "serves 18" and no instructions on how to reduce it. Also the back of the book has a list of 5-6 complex ingredients (like pastry cream) which you're supposed to "have on hand at all times". So, not really a book for the home cook.

Josh,
Thanks for the update. I read about her at a blog and the author recommended her books. I'm glad I checked here first before purchasing.

Todd,

I have The Secrets of Baking and like it very much. I use it as a reference when I'm not in the mood to scale professional recipes to smaller batches.

Josh, I suspect Kris was reviewing Desserts by the Yard, which is a much more pretentious book.

Amy,

Actually, that was her critique of Secrets of Baking.

Josh,

Different strokes, as they say. I really enjoy the book.

Sherry Yard was one of the Sous Chefs on an episode of Top Chef Desserts recently. Did anybody watch any of the shows?
