So I was perusing an antique/junque shop, and found "Candy Hits by ZaSu Pitts." For you young'ins, she was a silent film star and my grandmother's favorite comedienne. She transitioned into "talkies" and television, and died in 1963. I named my hilarious Golden Retriever after her. Anyway, I tried to research it, but I suspect it was one of the first celebrity cookbooks. The recipes are pretty good, too. She evidently had a "famous round kitchen." Does anyone else collect old cookbooks? Or have celebrity cookbooks? |

I wouldn't say that I collect them, but if I happen to see any I like while I am in an antique store, I will buy it...I only have a few in my "collection". I do have a few celebrity compilations from charitable events. |

I have a few: The George Bernard Shaw Vegetarian Cokbook Some Favorite Southern Recipes of the Duchess of Windsor I know I have others but can't think of them off the top of my head. I've used a few recipes out of the Shaw book but nothing appeals to me from the Duchess' collection. In fact, they seem quite boring. Quote from the Shaw book: "My hearse will be followed not by mourning coaches but by heards of oxen, sheep, swine, flocks of poultry and a small traveling aquarium of live fish, all wearing white scarves in honor of the man who perished rather than eat his fellow creatures." In our apt I've got 1948 BHG and 1964 JC. I know I have some classic Julia, Pierre Franey and a few others upstate but can't for the life of me remember them right now. Must be this fabulous french wine I'm taste testing ![]() Nancy |
