Post subject:  Pumpkins!

For those who might enjoy growing these for the fall festivities -- NOW (mid MAY) is a great time to plant your seeds.

Back in school, our horticulture teacher POUNDED into us the importance of potential hydrogen, aka: pH regarding all plants.

With that, pumpkins like a slightly acidic soil, the recommended pH range is about 5.5 to neutral 7.0. Since vinegar is about 2.5 to 3.0 you can mix a tablespoon per quart and have an acceptable aqueous solution to make your pumpkin plant really happy. (Check your soil pH as well; mix some dirt in some deionized water and do the litmus paper test. Don't have litmus paper? Use purple cabbage in a blender, paint the juice on a white paper and dry.)

Have fun!
