Normal. Pedestrian. Cornish game hens. Dry brined, then rubbed(no time for that last night, both kids sick-Al since Thursday after school. Grilled and sauced per CI 07. Mashed, green beans. Simple, but good.

Tonight, sole meunière (as traditional, with browned butter sauce from the pan it was cooked in), swiss chard, rice. Simple, fast and tasty. Outside of rice cooking time, which can be cooked in advance, I think this is the sort of things that should be a 30 min meal, not the abominations that often show up.

only here could anyone comment that cornish game hen is pedestrian. I made quiche. 1 with ham, 1 with ham and asparagus. Think I can blind bake the crusts next time the night before? edit to fix word typo!

Can't you see her kids rolling their eyes and saying, "oh Ma, not Cornish hens again."

Tonight we had baked huevos rancheros, grilled garlic bread (with smoked garlic, if you run across this stuff just get it) and salad. Thumbs up from the home team.

Seared dry pack scallops with caper/butter emulsion, arugula salad and roasted leek julienne.
Tonight, jumbo WASI pink shrimp, roasted baby artichokes. Sparkling Crystal Light - how's that for a Lent diet*

I'm doing some scallops this evening, and the caper/butter emulsion sounds nice. Any particular recipe/method/reference?

*My wife began our Lenten wine free diet 10 days ago. Our pastor thinks lent has not begun...? Old Lutheran joke -- A dad is talking to his son. He says, "Son, your mom and I think that you're old enough now to give up something for Lent." "Like what?" "We think you should give up eating candy." The son says, "What have you given up?" Dad says, "We've given up drinking alchohol." "But, I saw you guys drinking something tonight, after dinner," says the boy. "That was sherry. We've given up drinking hard liquor," Dad replies. The son considers this, then says, "I think I'll give up hard candy, then."
