Folks, I'll be in San Diego twice this year, once later this month, and once in early December. This time, I'll be downtown (Gaslamp Quarter) rather than up north, and have some time for gallavanting around. Food recommendations? Anyone on the Board live there? And is the San Diego Zoo really worth $42/person? |

Hiba (Tartine) lives there. Send her a PM. I'm sure she'd give you excellent recommendations. Amy |

Fuzzy, Brian Malarkey's Searsucker is in the gaslamp, wonderful food. His Oceanaire Seafood Room has been sold but still maintains an excellent reputation. Little Italy is right around the corner and we really enjoyed Bencotto there. Also the Nobu in the Hard Rock Hotel is one of the best Nobus, supposedly. Unfortunately I went there and had no clue what to order as the menu was very complicated. Bertrand at Mister A's is excellent and offers sublime city/ocean views. If you want less stuffy and less $$$ but nevertheless fabulous food, make sure you visit South Beach Bar & Grille in Ocean Beach for what is consistently voted the best fish tacos in San Diego. Get the grilled Mahi. The fried stuff is meh... Also, Sushi Ota in Mission Bay (not terribly far from downtown) is also the best for authentic. This is just off the top of my head; I promise to think more about the offerings and get back to you. I live in Escondido, which is about 30 minutes north of downtown. |

Hiba, I need to go up near Del Mar on Tuesday; maybe I could drop by? |
