Post subject:  Three Problems with shopping online for food

Folks,

I don't shop online for food items much, mostly because I live in San Francisco and most things I can find locally. However, I've had issues finding two things lately: ground roasted chicory root, and Cretan barley rusks. Since both of those are fairly non-perishable, I thought I'd see if I could buy them online.

Well, I certainly can, but there's some issues:

  1. Shipping usually costs more than the item itself (e.g. rusks: $5.99, shipping: $10), and is per item, so there's no way to save by ordering more.
  2. Many sites won't even tell you how much the shipping is until you "register" and thus sign up for 3 years of spam from them.
  3. And then this ridiculously expensive shipping takes 2 weeks.

Overall, shopping online for anything I can't get at Penzey's seems like a bust.

Are granules the same as ground? Cause if so you can add this to an amazon order...say for a cookbook!

No idea on the rusks.
