One source of frustration I've had this year with TJs is that they stopped carrying their stock concentrate boxes. These are little boxes with 12 small foil pouches, each of which contains enough concentrate for 8oz of broth. They were better than any other vegetarian bouillon or concentrate I've had since Better Than Bouillon started filling their jars with Vegemite. And being able to do 8oz at a time is very convenient. I've written TJs and asked at stores. First they were going to bring it back for the holidays, but now it looks like they won't have it at all. However, my sweetie with her mighty Google-Fu has managed to locate the manufacturer of the stock, who has apparently chosen to market their own product instead of doing a deal with TJs this year: http://savorychoice.com/products/index.html Yaaay. Ordering 3 boxes; will tell you if they changed the formula. |

Thanks for the link. Even though it is anathema to some, I used boxed stock on occasion (recently Full Circle Organic). In the same vein, a couple of nights ago I saw a commercial for Knorr Homestyle Stock featuring Marco Pierre White as the spokesperson. He doesn't seem the type to put his name on just anything, (but of course if the price were right he might put his name on a box of doggie doo-doo). Has anyone tried this product? Thanks for the link, I ordered some for when I don't have any in the freezer. It's very reasonably priced and free shipping thru the end of the year. |

Sorry Tim, can't do anything about your disappointment, only add to it  Yesterday in the regular market I saw this new concentrate product by Swanson's: http://www.swansonbroth.com/ourproducts.aspx?boost=yes Haven't tried it as I keep Better than Bullion on hand in the case of emergencies. Tis' the problem with TJ's, once you start to count on something, their supplier decides to go direct. Still can be gotten but not as convenient. |

Darcie, MiGirl, Ivy, etc.: In general, Knorr makes pretty good products. However, their vegetarian stock and bouillon, like most brands, relies heavily on salt and yeast extract (MSG). Swanson is even worse. Better Than Bouillon used to be, well, better, but now they're not. Veggie stock-in-a-box tends to be problematically sweet, relying too much on carrots, without enough aromatics or seasonings. Also, there's the issue of needing only one cup, or even half a cup. Tim, Some of us have half-size freezers. Which are very, very full. |

Funny Paul. I was just going to write that if I had room for a pressure canner, I would get a bigger freezer. Plus I am a tad lazy at times... Mary |
