Glad to know you're arriving! Both airports are connected to the CTA-it's the same transit time for both. to just about anywhere we end up staying.
Sabine asked about a City based hotel or B&B. Would everybody enjoy that more? The Margarita Inn is about as far from Chicago as the hotel in Boston was from the waterfront. Also, there are plenty of us here w/ cars for transit.

I'll be driving in and can transport anyone needing to go to and from where ever we go.

I don't care where we stay, what ever you think is best for the things we will be doing.
I'm really excited to be able to come along this time! :D

I am editing this to say: After further consideration I'm not wild about doing a lot of driving in downtown Chicago, and would prefer to stay a little outside of the city if possible. But, I'm a newbe to this event so will go with the flow and take a big wooden spoon to place between my teeth while driving if nessesary.

Laurie

Yeah, Midway because we're flying on Southwest (for the flexibility as much as the price). $275 pp from BWI.

I am researching other possible places to stay and will have some more info soon.
On the other hand, there is one burning question-
Where to eat?
We can do anything you want-except I don't know where the Hong Kong underground places are that will sell you snake, etc. So if you want that, you can organize a trip to HK for all of us.
Anyway-would people be interested in spending the big money and going to Alinea,Moto, Charlie Trotters, etc.?
Or do we want to do some nice BBQ? Great steaks? Dim Sum? Any ideas welcome.

My vote would be for quintessential Chicago food, although I understand if we don't go to either of Rick Bayless's places this time around.

Bourdain just did a show on Chicago which I've saved from the TiVo. I'll give it a review (although he seemed more interested in the south side pork & hot dog places).

EDIT: Found some articles that mention where he ate:
Hot Doug's (hot dogs)
L2O (higher end)
Silver Palm
Ramova Grill
Calumet Fisheries

I personally prefer the little dive places, I always feel you get a better feel of the city eating like the natives do. Bordaine always has good pic's.

And I will be working with a budget of sorts. I have a Nashville trip planned for later in the summer so I have to save a little dough for that. :D

I am really bummed that I can't make this one and am going to miss another get together. Sheesh. And I've been wanting to visit Chi for so long. And meet you all. Please make sure you post plenty of pics so I can continue to live vicariously thru you!
