And I don't have a vitamix. I think they cost about 6 trillion dollars here.

It took me about 18 months of waiting to get one used ( alerts on all the local used sites ). Got one for $250, though it needed a little care ( which it got ). It really is wonderful. That said, I've heard great things about a bamix, plus the best tool is the one you have ;) also, some would prefer the stick blender for things like pureeing large quantities of soup or the like as it is likely less work.

Agree with Paul on Vitamix. It just does things no other appliance can do.

FWIW, the Indian food grinder is a pretty good alternative to a vitamix.

Ah, the reminds me.

Useless: Stick blender.

Paul, take Mary's advice and try the Bamix. I was gifted with a Braun many years ago, and it was always on my 'useless' list.

This thread was the impetus to try the Bamix:

It's in a different class.

JB,

Yah, good point. And I wouldn't recommend the vendor my sweetie ordered mine from (Perfect Peninisula). Their customer service leaves something to be desired.

Well, I made aebleskivers for breakfast, both filled and unfilled, using the recipe provided by Jimbo. Excellent! That pan may stay in Useful: for a while.

Useless: ... garlic slicer, garlic press

Kathy didn't think much of our garlic slicer until she used it... It makes thinner slices than I could ever get with a knife.

I understand that I'm swimming against the current around here about garlic presses so I'll just hold my tongue...

Pete - what brand garlic slicer do you have? I bought one once and it broke on first use. I love thinly sliced garlic in rapini and am not a good slicer. TIA

We could all just swap stuff when we no longer find it useful.

Just an idea...
