Anyone have a slow-cooked, from-scratch, tomato-based BBQ sauce recipe they like? I'd swear I've seen something posted to this board, but I couldn't find it while searching. |

Not from me, mine always start from ketchup... I let someone else do the slow part and then I rush in all quick like in the end. Mary |

I made a really good one from MC last weekend ( no exotic ingredients or methods ) but it too started with ketchup. |

Favorite BBQ sauce recipe? topic from last year? My favorite also uses Ketchup for a base. BBQ sauce just does not taste quite right without the maize nectar that is found most Ketchup. |

Jim, Oh, there we go. For some reason the full-text search on this board blocks the work "sauce" which makes searching for that somewhat difficult. I'll have to delve into the code and find out why that is. I used the later version of the CI recipe (the one cited on that thread), only I swapped bourbon for most of the vinegar, and used dried whole peppers instead of chili powder. Too tomato-ey. Was more of a tomato-chili sauce than a BBQ sauce; adding it up again as written, the sugar/molasses/bourbon is out of proportion with the tomato ingredients. It should use a single can of crushed tomatoes and no sauce. Really, I should copy the Key Lime Pie recipe and the Caesar Salad recpies out of The Best Recipe and toss the book. I rarely use it for anything else, and when I do, I'm usually disappointed. |

following up ... Looks like this board is using PHPBB search instead of database full-text search. I'll add that to my TODO list of things to fix. |

IF you subscribed and entered your library, Eat Your Books would find if you already own something . . . ![]() |

Wino, Yah, that's how I turned up the Best Recipe recipe. The problem with not eating meat is that you don't own any "grill" books, and that's where most of the BBQ recipes are. |
