Yes, congrats, can't wait to see him or her (he or she) if it all works out. We love our dog dearly and now I can't imagine being without her.
I considered making food too, and after some research, found out that the percentages of the things dogs need must be carefully balanced - and it's just better to use a prepared dog food as a diet base.
I also remember when she was a puppy that I changed foods too often, creating loose stools. My vet told me that dogs digestion gets accustomed to foods and if you make changes too often it upsets them.
Having said all this, I do now give her small amounts of scrambled eggs, rice, and meats. (she is five now and seems to tolerate different food better).
My foodie friend makes her peanut butter and bananna biscotti, she loves them. There are many good recipes on the web.
Anyhow, good luck with your adoption process.

Is it me or were there no recipes at that link?
The reason we're looking for DF recipes is to avoid filling him up with corn & wheat, which don't really digest and can cause allergy issues. I'm on the fence about homemade biscuits. Currently he eats Purina Dog Chow, but supplemented with homecooked meat & rice.
We made a KA biscuit mix once for DS's dog and it made him (the dog, not DS) sick.

Ah. I kept clicking on the photo or on the blog post title - either one just reloaded the same page. I think I did see all those other links but somehow they didn't seem important.

Like Amy I feed one of my min. poodles adult Nutro Ultra and add 1 Tbsp of yogurt (usually Greek) to her food and mix in a Tbsp or two of wet, canned food. The other girl who is her half sister has digestive issues and seems to have a dairy allergy. She gets Hills Prescription Diet i/d dog food (from the Vet) with a Tbsp of soy yogurt mixed in as well as a Tbsp or two of Science Diet wet food. They LOVE, LOVE mealtime and even more so since I introduced the yogurt to their food.

I've discovered a new use for my dehydrator that makes Harry very happy. I'm now dehydrating hot dogs (natural, no nitrates) to use as training treats. Harry's in love, as am I as they cost about half what training treats go for at Petco.

Oh - dehydrater - another thing I thought I'd use a lot and never do. Thanks for the hot dog tip. Zippy would probably love those. fitzie

When we got Nellie she was a mess (abandoned, had 5 puppies despite being 9 months old, little fur since she was so malnourished). We've fed her on Blue Buffalo food (check it out) and given her fish oil in her breakfast. Skin, coat, everything is just great.
