Although the Canadian part of the recent e coli food outbreak has been traced to contaminated romaine, the US CDC hasn't been able to draw the same conclusions regarding the source of outbreaks here. So there are signs at the groceries advising caution but no recall and no clarity.

We had bought some bagged romaine at the beginning of January a day or two before the Consumer Reports warning. Eventually we discarded it uneaten.

What are others doing? We'd like to have a Caesar salad tomorrow when the grandkids and their parents visit but don't want to sicken folks...

We've been eating it all along. I never buy bagged, only heads. I wash carefully 2x. Don't know if that helps at all, but we've not suffered so far!

Pete,

As far as the news has been reported, the CDC has been unable to find any specific contaminated vegetables.

I've eaten romaine since the news, haven't had issues, like the majority.
