I cut some of my "freshly planted dill" to take up to the cabin. It tasted like licorice and for a brief moment I wondered if somehow my dill picked up the tarragon flavor that was planted adjacent to it. It took me longer than it should have to figure out I'd planted fennel. Deb

Well, now you can have braised fennel that you weren't expecting.

Fennel is highly underrated in my book. Cooked, not raw.

I don't love fennel, but I can totally see how it would look similar to dill. Makes for a pretty garnish at least. And Ina Garden has a bazillion recipes that use it (she loves it) if you need to use it.

I quite like the fennel bulb, and really need to bring up my game using the green. We eat it raw, very very thinly sliced, or grilled or sautéed.
Also, looks just like dill!

I love fennel, and I live on the west coast, where it's so easy to grow it basically a weed (in fact, in SF, it IS a weed).

Sadly, my sweetie hates it, so no fennel for me. :-(
