She's on here too, right? I think making sure that everyone gets a chance to take part would be a good idea.

Also, just in case some people aren't on Facebook, what Amy has inspired me to do is to finally get off my butt and put into action the Friday Night Meatball idea that was published a while ago on Serious Eats (it might have been in Fine Cooking even earlier). I can't commit to weekly meals, but Chris and I have decided that on the first Friday of every month we will extend an open invitation to anyone who happens to be in Winnipeg to come to our place for a pasta night. We did our first one last week, and it was great. We had 10 people around the table (none of whom knew each other previously) and did Cook's Country's meatballs and marinara, a salad, lots of wine, and we broke out our Scotch collection. Others brought dessert. It was such a fun night.

So if anyone happens to be in Winnipeg, message me and you are welcome to join us. I know we're not a popular travel destination, but if you happen to be in the area, whether it's a First Friday or not, let me know. Come summer we plan to break out the BGE (not for pasta, but for some other cheap and cheerful meal that we can all share).

Well, that's what the Scotch is for! :D

(In all seriousness, if you have a choice, come in the summer! Summers are beautiful here....usually right through to the end of September)

Do you refer to each other as 'Peggers'?
Like people from the U.P. refer to themselves as http://dayoopers.com/whatwher.html

Some do, but it's not that common. Most people use the term Winnipeggers (but many will refer to Winnipeg as The Peg). Winnipeggers tend to affiliate more with their separate neighborhoods than the city as a whole. So they'll say "I'm from East KD" (East Kildonan) or "I'm from St. James." It was horribly confusing to me when I first moved here because none of the city maps mark out the various neighborhoods; you're just supposed to know them. It took me a few years to figure out where people were talking about. I guess it's the same when people say they're from Brooklyn or The Bronx.

I'm still working on it, but I've been hammered at work recently.
