Every year we make scones and eat them on the porch with friends and family while watching the parade.

JB,

Oooh, you have a parade?

Here we have the Rose Parade, but it's a bit of a zoo, so we didn't go. Decided to play lawn bocce instead.

Yeah, about 5-6 dozen soldiers and former soldiers, boy scouts, girl scouts, the high school marching band, the mayor in a convertible, the guy who rides the high-wheel bicycle, a handful of random floats representing local churches and civic groups, some guys on their vintage tractors, and every fire truck that the local department ever owned.

It's hella quaint.

JB,

Those are fun. We went to a parade about that size in Southern Oregon once ... the parade was so short they did it twice. Also, unlike the Rose Parade, you can find somewhere to sit without having to arrive at 7am ...

In all my 30+ years in Portland we went to the Rose Parade just once. You seen one, you seen 'em all.
Besides, it almost always rains.

No Memorial Day, lousy weather for the past few months. On the positive side, last Friday (the only nice day for the past 2 weeks) my daughter got married and we got to sit outside at a wine bar all afternoon for drinks and snacks. We will have the real reception in August (hey, she only gave us 3 weeks notice).

Congrats on the wedding, Mary! I guess 3 weeks notice is better than none at all. And you'll get to party again soon this summer. Oh, those millenials....

Tell me about it. Still all a bit unreal, I need to get my head around it. They are very happy though and it was lovely.

Mary,

I was engaged for 7 years. I can't imagine it.
