I really love contemplating how these kinds of products happen, the thinking and process that hand to be involved (clearly I do waaaay to much product-development type work). And, of course, contemplating did anyone actually taste it before sending it out? I think, ultimately, they show contempt for the consumer; they assume the consumer is so stupid and will fall so easily for the convenience that they won't notice that it is awful. In my anecdotal observation, I see this kind of thing happen because people don't appreciate what it is about something that the consumer likes, thinks the consumer is stupid and that they can just sell any old thing to them with enough flash graphics, marketing and promises. The eating public at large appears to often have simple tastes, but they still demand things be edible. You can only bypass that if you lock them in a business meeting, airport or sports stadium (and I increasing choose to go hungry, resulting in showing up home in a bad mood...), or have some kind of tradition to lean on.
