I will be leaving my current post at Beloit College on the 22nd, and starting at the Hoosier Mana Pie Shop in Evanston on the 26th. My mom really shouldn't be living alone, so this means that I will be able to live with her, walk or bike to work-it's about four blocks-and still have an okay income.
It will be a nice shift in tempo. I have been basically the only functional baker since February, with one helper we moved from the dishroom. There are supposed to be three bakers. Now, instead of massive stress and a never ending production list I will have a 40 hour week with a set list of tasks. Three days off a week, too. Since I can get healthcare through the ACA in Illinois, that may even save me money.
I might even have time to play with some toys-like the dehydrator still in its box and the molecular gastronomy chemical and molds.
Now all I need to do is learn to cope with mom's fading memory.

So sorry to hear about your mom, Becky, but what a cool opportunity. Especially given the stress you've been under. I have a close friend who used to live in Evanston, it's a sweet town. Be sure to share the scoop on the pie shop world once you start!

Oh Becky, I too am very sorry to hear about your Mom. But, glad you could make the transition to assist and reduce your work stress. You both are in my thoughts...

Best of luck in your new job and bless your heart for watching over your mother.
