... menus. Put 'em here! What are you planning?

I'll start:

Christmas Eve: Georgian food

* beet/walnut spread
* dark rye bread
* kachapuri (cheese-stuffed flatbread)
* Georgian-style green beans
* Homemade savory-tart plum sauce
* Roast chicken and salmon to go with the sauce

Christmas Day: dunno, going over to someone else's house.

So far: Greek baklava, Country Captain, rouladen, and Serious Eats's lasagna bolognese!

Wino,

That's a rather eclectic menu!

We're doing the usual traditional at our early Christmas meal tonight -- ham, corn pudding, roasted potatoes, deviled eggs (family members are bringing all those) and I'm doing stuffing, CI's glazed carrots and parmesan asparagus, lard/buttermilk biscuits and Flour's coconut cream and super pumpkiny pies. Not as creative as you guys so far but quite delicious regardless!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Emilie

Speaking of glazed carrots... I saw Ree Drummond make whiskey-glazed carrots recently and decided to try her recipe. I think the only real difference is that there's a half cup of Jack Daniels added to the glaze. Really wonderful!

Christmas eve we are having an "orphans" gathering. If you don't have a place to be that night then ours is the house. Many of our friends no longer have both sides of parents so are alone on Christmas eve, we did this last year with great success. I'm working that day so the menu will be lots of appetizers (trying to make some myself but will do a fair bit of storebought frozen) and desserts.
Christmas day is our normal family gathering (my dad's side of the family - 6 siblings in the Toronto area with 21 kids, mostly married with kids and some of those kids now married - we total around 90 although not everyone can make it, we are normally around 65)
This gathering is catered - a white and a red pasta, chicken and veal, 3 veggies and salad. Desserts are brought by everyone as is alcohol. A great way to see all of the extended family in one place.

Christmas Eve at our house:
Glazed ham
Upscale mac & cheese
Caesar salad
Potato rolls
Assorted dishes brought by family
Olive Oil / Grand Marnier cake
Chocolate bundt cake - still haven't chosen the recipe

Christmas Day at my daughter's house and I don't have to bring a thing.

We do Christmas Eve with friends. I am making dessert, a chocolate torte with pistachio brittle from Fine Cooking. Christmas Day here with my MIL, leg of lamb, basil and onion mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. Not sure about dessert.

Whole tenderloin, shrimp salad, multiple rolls (poppy seed, orange, sour cream, finger rolls), au gratin potatoes, broccoli supreme casserole, and mac and cheese (the only thing one grand will eat) and desserts on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning we usually do Romme Grot but will be traveling that day.
