I would expect higher quality analysis from a Salon food writer with a masters degree from Harvard.

Guy is only an innocent freak of nature able to survive on the post-apocalyptic planet that is the Food Network. The deluge that washed away the dinosaurs that cooked on their shows was caused by somebody a bit higher up the food chain than Guy Fieri and abetted by viewers who would rather watch a food fight than a cooking show.

If Mr. Askari combed the internet and TV for the kind of shows and videos he used to love, he would find them happy and healthy. He might even use that information to write an article worth reading instead of re-writing an obituary for the late, lamented Food Network that could have been written in 2008

Interesting. The author should read the book I read early in the Summer ("From Scratch - Inside the Food Network" by Allen Salkin). Along with the history of the formation of TFN it also explains the transition from actual cooking to showmanship (for lack of a better word).

Yep, I totally agree with Jim and Nancy. I rarely watch any FN anymore, maybe Ina. I'm about to ditch most of my cable anyway in lieu of more reading.....I think I will start with your book Nancy!
