• April 7, 2010 Most Expensive Dessert in the World Up for Grabs: Serendipity 3, which celebrated its first anniversary on the Las Vegas Strip yesterday, is now also on target to sell its 100,000th Frrrozen Hot Chocolate by the end of this month. The lucky guest to purchase the signature dessert will receive a $1,000 Gold Opulence Sundae, first created to celebrate the original New York venue's Golden (50th) Anniversary in 2006 and dubbed the "most expensive dessert ever created" by Guinness World Records. Here's a description: "Five scoops of the richest Tahitian vanilla bean ice cream infused with Madagascar vanilla and covered in 23K edible gold leaf, the sundae is drizzled with the world's most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana, and covered with chunks of rare Chuao chocolate. The masterpiece is suffused with exotic candied fruits from Paris, gold dragets, truffles and Marzipan Cherries. It is topped with a tiny glass bowl of Grand Passion Caviar. It's sweetened and infused with fresh passion fruit, orange and Armagnac. The sundae is served in a baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet with an 18K gold spoon to partake in the indulgence and topped with a gilded sugar flower by Ron Ben-Israel."

I saw that on the travel channel, on the worlds most expensive foods or something like that.

I'm not sure I would want to eat even etible gold. Just give me some good ice cream and hot fudge and call me happy!

Todd,

Amazing, yet not appetizing. Very Vegas.

Seems they don't even know which kind of vanilla was used in the ice cream.

My bet is they just used Haagen-Dazs because anyone who thinks that is a great dessert probably couldn't tell the difference. :o

I wonder if the pastry chef really thinks this is a great thing or if he/she was pressured by management to come up with some expensive.

As for all that gold leaf: I'd just as soon gnaw on my wedding ring...

Didn't think of that. I wonder if the recipient did?
