Oh, I don't think that one is because of digital. Used bookstores were dying a horrible death well before eBooks rose. Heavily discounted new books probably killed them.

Paul,
Not out here. On the West Coast, the used bookstores are the only ones which are thriving, mostly because they sell stuff you can't get on Amazon, for cheaper than Amazon will sell it. Well, actually, the specialty bookstores are doing pretty well too. It's the new general bookstores which are vanishing.

Interesting. Perhaps population size is related; here, rent is kind of high and possible customers low for specialty bookstores and used bookstores have been struggling for quite a time, though they do come and go. The big (physically) bookstores seem to be doing OK, but the small ones have been crushed into oblivion.

Got "52 Loaves" and "An Embarrassment of Mangoes" from the library on Saturday. 10-day staycation starts this coming Friday and I'm so looking forward to reading these pool-side. Any other new recommendations would be highly appreciated as many of those mentioned in the last several threads aren't yet available in my library.

Nancy, I have no food related ones but currently am reading Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral by Kris Radish and based on this would read other books by her.
I also just re-read Daddy Longlegs, which I had read as a young girl and still loved it.
I've decided to no longer read anything by Jodi Picoult, since the books just break my heart.
And I have no idea if this is on the previous pages, but if you haven't read Cooking for Mr. Latte that one is great with good recipes.
