Daniel Patterson's cookbook Coi, after the high-end San Francisco restaurant, is now out. Well, sort of. According to this reviewer, the book is a history, and a biography, and a philosophy of cooking, and even an art book, but is not a cookbook. Among other things, the "recipes" lack ingredients.

If you only use these high-end cookbooks for inspiration it seems like a good idea. Sounds like an intriguing book.

Amy, Paul:

Sure. I'm actually wondering if this represents a new trend in haute cuisine "cookbooks".

After all, even if I had the real recipes from Coi, how many would I really prepare? People read more cookbooks than cook from them.

I view those cookbooks like I do porn. Good for inspiration.

Lol. I guess I feel the same way, except my reaction is "really, you can do that?"

So glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that!

The last time I saw porn -- Geekboy was cleaning our nephew's computer, just getting rid of all the viruses that come with "free" games, music, and (of course) nekkid people. One of the files he opened featured a particularly callipygian woman in a great pair of stockings with the garter belt built in. Somehow, the thoughts in my head came straight out of my mouth, "Oh! I love those type of stockings. You used to be able to get them at Target, but I haven't seen them in ages. I wonder where she got them." Then I realized I was looking at porn on my 16-year-old nephew's computer and my father-in-law was in the same room and I had just called attention to the porn.

I have never had a similar experience with a cookbook.
