I have no idea what to expect, but chances are my cousins (who are in LA and Sante Fe now) didn't take many, if any, of the books. Going to see my mom tonight to get 1 box, no idea how many there are in total but figure that flipping through them will give me something to do in the winter months. as well as an excuse to buy those Billy bookcases for the basement that I've been trying to justify.

It appears that I have also just inherited a cookbook collection. None of these have any sentimental value. My dad just kept buying my mom cookbooks at various garage sales. She never used any of them. I've already decided to keep a few -- The Bread Baker's Apprentice for instance, but I need to make a decision on some of the others. I was hoping that someone here might be familiar with one or more of these titles -- Ultimate Bread by Eric Treuille & Ursula Ferrigno - A DK Press book that seems to be more flash than substance. Baking in America by Greg Patent - A tome. Does it deserve 2 and a quarter inches of shelf space? Sauces by James Peterson - ditto, except it's more like 2 and three-quarters inches. 100 Great Breads by Paul Hollywood - Nice bread porn, but I already have half a dozen bread books. Amy's Bread by Amy Scherber & Toy Kim Dupree - Looks intriguing, but I already have half a dozen bread books. Anyone?

JB, Well, I have Sauces. It's a beautiful book. I think I've actually cooked from it a total of twice, though; it's really aimed at food service professionals rather than home cooks. |

I love Sauces too. Great reference work and wonderful info on mother sauces. Bread Baker's apprentice is great as well, though I have not used it in a long time. I am not familiar with the rest. |

Wino, I'll check into the book binders. I am sick about a few of them. I don't want to have to pick between the cookbooks and the puppies! Laurie |

So I got 4 or 5 large boxes of books. My mom went through and removed all of the ones in Italian, my sister took a few and now I have to look through the rest. Definitely a lot of chaff amongst the wheat but a few winners from first glance. Will post more as I get into them and will also post any I don't intend to keep in case anyone here wants to pay for postage for the book. |
