I just found a neat app for the iPad called Cooking. It is gorgeous and it's free, gives ingredient subs, altitude conversions explanations, etc.

Thanks Alina, I just downloaded it. Naturally, I immediately went to the high altitude section. I'm sorry, but people seriously over think cooking and baking at altitude. It completely depends on the recipe. When it comes to baking, I make no adjustments on some recipes, cut mechanical leaving in half on others, and in the case of caramel at MY altitude/humidity, if you don't add corn syrup your caramel will crystallize. I dislike when people give "rules" of how to cook/bake at altitude. It's just not that simple.

The app is nice, and look forward to expansion in terms of depth/breadth.

Thanks for pointing us to it!

Amy

Thanks Alina....it is a good one (I concur with Amy on the high altitude stuff....you just learn by doing, rules do not work)

Amy, I just saw it did had the feature, didn't actually review as I don't need it. I know from my cousins who live in Bailey, that it is a matter of adjusting individual recipes and not one size fits all.

Alina,

I wasn't suggesting you were reviewing it. Simply commenting that "rules" like this app suggests annoy me.

I use Dropbox on my iPad for my personal recipes that I have saved in word format or PDFs on my PC. I cook from them quite a bit (I prop my iPad up with my smart case and anything that splashes easily wipes off).

Carey - Is there a way to get rid of the ad at the bottom of Dropbox? It's driving me to drink :!:

I like to use a combination of evernote and dropbox. I save recipes I want to try to an evernote folder called "Recipes to Try" since it's so easy to save things off the web into evernote. Then when I want to save them to my permanent cookbook I copy them to a word document in my dropbox cookbook, format them the way I like it, and add a photo. That way I can easily see the recipe on my MacBook, iPad or iPhone.

I also share my dropbox cookbook with my daughter, brother, and some other friends so we actually have a family cookbook going. Since my sister-in-law is Persian, it's actually quite a cosmopolitan book. It's a lot of fun.
