DG,

Welcome to the board!

I don't know Taste of Home. Who's that one by? What kind of food?

Taste of Home is a quintessential home cooking magazine. Not quite "can of" recipes, but certainly not sophisticated.

Fuzzy, save yourself a few dollars - you won't like it. Very few vegetarian recipes, if any.

I have a friend who works at Michaels. They sell the Taste of Home magazine and if they don't all sell, he brings home the old copies. He loves looking at this and has even tried some of the recipes. He doesn't cook much, but this magazine has inspired him to be a little more adventurous in the kitchen. I remember one dish he made involved orange jello and those bright orange circus peanuts.

I ended up getting Taste of Home years ago, because I had subscribed to Country Woman. At first it was people contributing recipes. Recently, it was apparently bought by Pillsbury, so they can likely hawk their food stuff through it. It turned out to be nothing more than an advertiser for a corporation and they want you to pay a subscription for it.

I didn't see the poll for some reason.

I used to get Gourmet, but.....

Well, that's quite interesting. Thanks for the insight!

Has anyone tried Delicious, the self-proclaimed "#1 Australian cooking magazine"? I've leafed through a copy at B&N, but it's $10 and I'm not sure it looked worth that price.

My penpal from Australia has been giving me a subscription to this mag for a couple of years. Interesting but I've yet to make anything. Regardless of the seasonal timing and also the description of ingredients and measurements which can be easily transposed, I just haven't found anything inspiring. If I'm wrong I'm always open for suggestions.

I haven't heard of it, but would love to get a look. When my mil was alive, she would send me Aussie cookbooks. I still freqently use "The Complete Beverly Sutherland Smith Cookbook." Lots of recipes for lamb and offal.

I'll check this mag. out! Thanks for the heads up.

Last year I submitted a recipe to Taste of Home for a contest and my recipe was published as one of the chosen few. The recipe is also in their annual cook book. It's for Turkey Pot Pie. My Mom gets me TOH mostly because she likes it. I make and occational recipe from it. Today for instance, I made a cheesy buffalo wing dip recipe for tomorrows dinner.

If you want simple recipe's it's a good source. Fuzzy she's right you won't like it. I wouldn't buy it for myself, but I'm not going to tell my mom to stop sending it either.

Way back when.....I posted on the OB about my experience with these people (ToH) I also submitted a recipe that had been in my family for YEARS, and I had never seen published. The recipe was for persimmon pudding. Mysteriously, out of the blue, someone else submitted that very same recipe, that had never been published, and THEY WON. Pardon my suspicion.

This used to be published by Rieman publiations, and sort of down home folky publishing company. Now that they have been bought by The Doughboy, I'm sure they will slide down and away. How much do you reckon they make from The Bakeoff?
