Anyhoo, I personally haven't had any trouble (yet) with CI and getting things I didn't order. I unsubscribed from the "Best of" series by writing one letter. Although it IS a dinosaur business practice, and not a very high class one either. |

I've kinda given up on buying CI books for the most part. One reason is that I've gotten obsessed with a few crazy books, and everything by Keller, and I've also been angling more more "theory" books. Plus the CI books repeat a *lot*. I do very much like Best Recipe and ATK Family Cookbook (a good book for a lot of weeknight cooking). But really it is more about me then them. But when I do buy them, I buy them from Costco or Amazon. Although they both want a 'relationship' with me (can't we have a one night stand?), at least they are lower maintenance friends then CI is. Plus, likely cheaper. Buying something should never be a chore, or result in one. Dinosaur, indeed. |

I also have a problem with the book quality. My best recipe has yellowing pages and warped covers (hardcover!) despite being less than 10 years old, whereas I have NYT and Boston cookbooks which are 5 times that old and only suffer from weak bindings (damn those silverfish!). Heck, even my Nitty Gritty cookbooks, which were the epitome of cheap (sold for $3 each in 1970's) have held up better. I complained to CI about the low paper quality in Best Recipe and they offered me a 20% discount on a replacement copy. I'd never buy a CI book again, unless I found it at a garage sale for $3. |

Hi everyone. Nice to "see" you all. I haven't bought any new CI books in awhile. Online subscription is enough for me, though I've been rethinking that one too. Nancy |

I am still reading, trying to get with the program. Josh, wow...really like the flame warriors; brings back memories, as do many of the conversations I am catching up on. Tim, So...posters on TOBB are incompetent boobs....I mean cooks? Cuz in my lil mind, the posters weren't using cream o anything. Nice to be enlightened. Lou, Big hug. Now, an embarrassing confession--I have been so busy, I let my sub lapse. At the end of the year, I still get the hardbound copy. In 09, I noticed I wasn't jazzed, but I thought it reflected upon my "not enough time" cooking lifestyle, still cooking, just not enough time for an 8 hr dinner prep. 2010 hardbound looked suspiciuosly the same. The holiday forced me to renew, seeing as how Harrison pressed me into the Navy for t-day, and Christmas, and New Years(we only work 6 days a week during dec; I came to the conclusion that my kids and nieces and nephews will associate holiday meals with my food--that's a good thing). Anyway, scanning new issues online, I was scratching my head at how thin and redundant some of the recipes were. Sorry about the paragraphs; out of practice, I guess. |

Crystal, No, it's absolutely true. I dropped my subscription 2 years ago. Then this TYDay, I was at my in-laws' and they had the latest copy, and the drop in quality was immediately apparent. As well as the increasing incoherence of CK's editorial ramblings. CI as we knew it is dead; it's the usual thing which happens in dictatorships when the dictator gets senile. |
