From Eater: "Meredith Corp, the media powerhouse behind Better Homes & Gardens and Martha Stewart Living, is pursuing a takeover of Time Inc., the company that publishes Food & Wine and Cooking Light. The acquisition would mean that Meredith would own several of the top competing food mags and recipe hubs, including both All Recipes and My Recipes. The New York Times notes that the Koch brothers reportedly raised more than $500 million in financing for the company’s potential takeover, although two of Meredith’s executives are denying that negotiations are underway. Stay tuned for any new details on this potential acquisition as they become available."

Wait, the Koch Bros own Martha Stewart Living?

That seems ... unexpected.

Martha Stewart Living is a pretty good fit with Better Homes & Gardens and the other properties. In the modern media landscape I think the big media companies are looking to own everything in the hopes of staving off someone sneaking up on them with some web property. Of course, they can still be disrupted from outside. Something like Serious Eats can sneak up on you and clobber you before you know what hit you.

Yeah, it's just that the Koch brothers are pretty much the right wing of the USA, and Martha Stewart is a well-known Democratic Party booster.

Divide and conquer! If folks are complying about recipe websites they won’t notice the wholesale ravishing of the country’s resources.
