In food fads & trends for the week:

Vogue is signalling that Lo-Carb is dead. The magazine contains a longish, adulatory article about the head baker at Tartine, including a hipster-fantasy two-page spread: http://sfist.com/2013/06/21/end_of_an_e ... _local.php

If Lo-Carb is out, what's In? According to Slate, sour is where it's at: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/food ... a_are.html

So, time to throw out all of your garbanzo flour and start filling up those jars with pickle brine! Go, go, go!

Mmmmm, pickle brine. I guess my "I heart carbs" shirt won't be as funny now.

I love that shirt. I've got a great picture of you in it from San Antonio.

I'm just "impressed" or maybe shocked is a better term, that Fuzzy reads Vogue.

I could have told them years ago that "sour" is an effective weight loss plan. I craved everything sour during my second pregnancy and only gained 15 pounds (after gaining 40 in my non-sour first pregnancy). However pickle brine wasn't on my menu

I'm currently fermenting kombucha tea, tepache (a pineapple drink-with sinister ties to Mexican jails) and ready to try a beet kvaas after making cabbage rejuvelac.

Alstro,

What's the appeal of Kombucha? It tastes like dirty water and vinegar to me.

Black bread kvaas (the alcoholic kind) tastes surprisingly like RC Cola.
