This one sentence says it all, really:

Quote:
Ikea says it has withdrawn 17,000 portions of moose lasagna from its home furnishings stores in Europe after traces of pork were found in a batch tested in Belgium.

http://www.sfgate.com/news/world/articl ... 414374.php

The questions, however, are endless and unlikely to every be answered.

  • Did you say moose lasagna?
  • Why would anyone care if moose lasagna had some pork in it?
  • Were those 17,000 portions all from one moose, or did it take two?
  • Moose lasagna, really?
  • Why am I seeing "you got your pork in my moose!" parody commercials in my head?

More as this dramatic story unfolds!

Well, moose is both kosher and halal (if processed correctly). I suppose that makes two groups that might be a little pissed. Even my lapsed Muslim friends are pretty freaked out at the idea of eating pig.

Us Nordic people, we like our moose (and caribou, there is a farm on 5 min drive from here, though they call it elk). Certainly moose is probably cut into more ground meat then anything, so lasagna makes sense, really. I've had a variety of cuts of moose, but tended to prefer the ground bits where the gamey flavour could be masked a little more. Depends on a lot of things. But Ikea? That would tend to imply they are domesticated somehow; I had no idea there were domestic moose. Interesting.

Mmmm....lasagna.....
