None of this could have anything to do with the food sucking, could it?
I've read in a couple of places that part of Hostess's problem was that fewer people were interested in buying what they were selling, although it was attributed toward junk food habits in general rather than a change in the quality of their particular brands of junk food.

A non-native english speaker friend of the family proudly wears his Bimbo jerseys. We've given up trying to explain....

Amy,

Hah!

JB,

It had everything to do with it sucking. As I mentioned, Hostess's revenue has been declining for two decades.

Hostess started out in KC as Interstate Bakeries. They always had a presence here along with Folgers Coffee. Now both are gone. We had dinner with friends this weekend and none of us could remember the last time we bought a twinkie or any of the other products. In highschool, Twinkies were eaten with a Cheeto pushed lenghtwise into the center. A dime would get you two twinkies in a cello pack. Don't know when I lost my love for Twinkies but I have to confess I've never lost my love for Cheetos.

I just feel bad for the 18000 people out of work right before the holidays in a bad job market. An 8% pay cut might have still been better than what EI would pay, and they would still have had health insurance while they quietly looked for a better job. This outcome has to be incredibly stressful.

I say kudos to them for standing by their principles. I am sure the above is exactly what management wanted them to think...companies always try to wring higher concessions out of employees when they know that it will be difficult for them to find other work. I hope the union will be able to assist them while they find other work.
