I get so muddled over different apple varieties that I just fell in love with this chart (I especially loved what they suggest doing with Red Delicious): http://www.slate.com/articles/life/food/2012/10/apple_variety_flow_chart_which_kind_of_apple_should_i_choose_for_eating_baking_bobbing_throwing_.html |

Cool chart, but completely ignores the excellent varieties we get around here: HoneyCrisp, SweeTango, Wealthy, Chestnut Crab, Pinata, Haralson, Regent, Fireside and Keepsake (and that's just from ONE local orchard). A dizzying array, and I've only tasted 4 of the above. |

I love Honey Crisp apples, but this was a bad year for Apples in Michigan. The few that I did get weren't very good at all and now the stores around here are out of Michigan apples already. Bummer for me, because I try to eat an Apple a day. |

I saw a new apple yesterday, might have been the Tango one. I didn't buy them since my picky apple eater will only eat Ambrosia, Pink Cripps and Honey crisp. fireside is on the list, I think it's a throwing apple. i agree, Red deliscious is only tasty in name. |
