I get so muddled over different apple varieties that I just fell in love with this chart (I especially loved what they suggest doing with Red Delicious):

Cool chart, but completely ignores the excellent varieties we get around here: HoneyCrisp, SweeTango, Wealthy, Chestnut Crab, Pinata, Haralson, Regent, Fireside and Keepsake (and that's just from ONE local orchard).

A dizzying array, and I've only tasted 4 of the above.

I love Honey Crisp apples, but this was a bad year for Apples in Michigan. The few that I did get weren't very good at all and now the stores around here are out of Michigan apples already. Bummer for me, because I try to eat an Apple a day.

I saw a new apple yesterday, might have been the Tango one. I didn't buy them since my picky apple eater will only eat Ambrosia, Pink Cripps and Honey crisp.
fireside is on the list, I think it's a throwing apple.
i agree, Red deliscious is only tasty in name.
