I end up with overflow of oil, hard bottom portion, mess all over the place. Has anyone cracked the code on how to do this?

I buy the Kirkland organic and also the MaraNatha Almond Butter.

Maybe there is a good brand that does not require this stirring?

Help

I put it in the fridge after stirring. 20 seconds in the microwave makes it spreadable enough (don't try this with the jars that have a foil seal inside the lid unless you remove all of the foil).

I only have to stir the jar once when I first open it. I use a sort of J-stroke where the knife goes straight across the jar and then turns to the side and circles, slightly lifting the knife through the curved part of the J. Rotate the jar 1/3 turn and repeat.

I use Smuckers natural. It has a bit of salt but I think that's needed.

 After years of fighting with those oily, messy jars, I've gone back to plain old Skippy. I know, I know. A while back I needed regular old peanut butter for something and bought Skippy. We loved it (although it does taste sweet after the peanuts and salt only version), and since we don't use all that much I continue to buy it. It's shelf stable, always creamy, dreamy and spreadable.

A brief warming in the microwave works for me-and it makes it easier to spread in general.

I can't do the microwave thing as there is a thin residue of foil left on the plastic jar top.

Today I scooped out about a half cup or more, then stirred in the jar. It was easier after some of the volume was removed. Maybe they fill the Kirkland type too full??

You could try warming it in a pan of hot water.

I use my hand mixer. This is on TJ's brand -- I don't know if the brands you mentioned are filled insanely full or something. I put one beater on, plunge it in, hold on to the jar (made that mistake once), and turn it on low, then cycle up. Since the baby thinks peanut butter sandwiches are nirvana on a stick, I don't keep the peanut butter around long enough to have anything more than minimal separation after that. I've noticed that some natural peanut butters are adding palm kernel oil, which is solid at room temp to prevent separation.

I have no experience with this device, other than to know that they exist.

Who knew?

And a hand mixer?? Really?? I absolutely would not have thought of that. It would make a good u-tube.

I set the container on the counter upside down for a day or two, flip it back over, and stir. Carefully. Most of the time I can avoid getting the oil all over. I follow the directions on the jar and refrigerate after opening it and have never had trouble spreading.

I think the problem with the hand mixer would be the volume of PB you'd displace. Those jars are full, putting even a knife in there can result in overflow.
