Does anyone else want to murder their SO when he or she is in the kitchen? OK, maybe murder is a strong word but sometimes it drives me bonkers when DH provides "assistance" and/or gets in the way when I'm in the kitchen.

Part 1 - Backseat Cooking. It's great that DH wants to learn and is picking up some tips, but it's turned into a pain because he is adjusting the heat on the cooktop behind my back, sneaking ingredients into the pan, or questioning what I'm about to do ("Are you SURE you want to add ____?"). Then he'll question my cooking knowledge. The other night we got into a discussion about a certain type of food. It was one those things where although the name of an ingredient is in the name of the dish, it's not made with that ingredient (I can't remember offhand what it was). He didn't believe me and had to Google it. (He came back sufficiently humbled :D )

The other night he even chastised me for the way I hooked up the portable dishwasher!

Part 2 - Get out of my way! Sometimes I'm busy cooking/baking and DH decides it's time for him to make a snack or just hang out in the kitchen. Our kitchen is poorly designed, and it doesn't help when someone is underfoot at every turn. I've almost cut him (accidentally, I swear!) a couple of times because he come up right beside me when I'm chopping or slicing and he'll reach for something on the counter. Or I turn around to move somthing to the other counter and he's standing right there and I literally run into him. If I have a hot pan of sugar syrup that I need to add to my egg whites in the standing mixer, he needs to get the hell out of the way!

Guess I just had to vent.

So what about you - do you like it when your SO is in the kitchen, or does he/she drive you batty? For those that have two cooks in the family, how well do you share the space?

How is my husband getting into your kitchen?

Nope. murder works just fine. The exact same thing. I became very unpleasant once when he decided to put curry in hamburgers behind my back.

He is banned. He offers, and if he does, and I accept it is with the specific knowledge and intention that he does the one thing, then get out.

I remind him that I'm the cook and I know where the knives are kept ;)

My husband: 1) makes coffee; 2) prepares his lunches; 3) empties the dishwasher; 4) reheats leftovers for himself; and 5) makes cocktails.

As long as those few rules are followed all is good. :)

lol...

I used to want to murder him when he tried to "help," but he's finally come around to taking my direction (most of the time), so I let him do things. But, most of the time I'm on my own. He does all of the dishes, so I'm not complaining.

Is there such a thing as cooking board confidentiality? Ya know, like when you tell your lawyer or priest you really think you're going to

Yeah, Geekboy never needs a cup of tea so badly as when I'm trying to cook.

Husbands are like little kids and dogs, they always want to be where you are. We have a rule - when he cooks, I stay out of his way and vice versa. It works pretty good. He's actually a very good cook.
