Hey Josh,
Here is the response from my friend. I will let you know if anything else com s up.

Portland rental market is very tight right now. When an apt comes on market there are many people scrambling to get it the first day. The consequence is higher costs than we should be paying. I live in NE in a duplex. The apt below me just rented for $1500 and is a one bedroom w 1 bathroom and half an unfinished basement and half a garage. I wd suggest stalking craigslist to get an idea of what's out there. I will also keep my ears For $2k your friends will find something but it may not hv a garage or shop.

Mary,

Thanks! (per Facebook). I think it depends on which neigborhoods you're looking in; we've found a lot of places available.

How exciting to be planning your move to a new city.
You'll love the lower tax rates besides NO SALES TAX!
You will, however, as you surely already know, have to pump your own gas (one of the Oregon's phenomena.

Linda,

It's the other way around, in Oregon you *can't* pump your own gas.

Of course! I wrote that wrong way round! Bad job of proofreading.

When we bought gas at Costco in Salem, OR the attendants literally ran from car to car and smiled!! Quite enjoyable!

Hope the move works out great, Josh.

Why in the world can't you pump your own gas in Oregon?

Why in the world would you want to?

BTW, no self-pumping in NJ, either.
