Thank you all! I had a wonderful day. Brunch with friends at one of our favorite waterfront restaurants.

For dinner we went to Bern's Steakhouse - part gothic castle, part old-boy steakhouse. But the food is outstanding, if very traditional. The oenophiles here will appreciate this story. Bern's is known as having the largest wine list in the US, some say in the world. The friend who took us to dinner had never been to Bern's, and usually considers Outback Steakhouse to be fine dining. When the tuxedoed waiter asked if we'd like something to drink, or perhaps a bottle of wine, my friend said "I'll have a merlot". He was completely nonplussed when the waiter opened the wine-by-the-glass BOOK and started making suggestions. He said, "Ask her". I wasn't much help; I just accepted one of the recommendations from the waiter. Hank said it was 'just OK'. Too bad they didn't have Menage a Trois on the wine list - he'd have loved that.

And for a final bit of pretension, I ordered a martini the way I always do, very dry and just a little dirty. They bring the martini in a glass without the vermouth. The waiter holds up an eye dropper of vermouth and asks, "How many drops?"

The food was excellent - the tour of the kitchen, cheese cave, and wine cellars afterward was fun - and the dessert room upstairs is always pleasant. A good evening.

Glad you had a great birthday. We also had a very memorable meal at Berns, along with the tour and dessert. A fantastic experience and great way to celebrate.
