So I saw something on Facebook that I tried today here at work at Break time. I took some boiling water and tossed it in the air. It turned to steam, froze and then blew away. Pretty cool.

I thought this statistic from the Financial Times was really interesting:

The coldest “real air” temperature on Tuesday morning was minus 35F (minus 37C) in Embarrass, Minnesota. That was colder than the minus 32F (minus 35C) recorded on Mars on January 2 by Nasa’s Curiosity rover.

That is funny. I probably had 6 or 8 friends post that yesterday. It looked like fun!

Warnings were on the satellite radio here about people getting burned trying that. I have to admit that I was surprised by the reports of people actually trying this, because when I heard about it I thought to myself that it was a sure-fire recipe to get burned. I'm not even convinced it would work 100% with cold water. All I know for sure is that if you cry outside when it's like that, you can freeze your eyes shut. Not that this was a childhood incident for me or anything....

People get stupid when the weather turns extreme any which way.

It's not a long simmer, but I thought it sounded good.
What bread are you making today? I am anxious to try your rye bread soon!

Karen

I made a biga based no-knead bread, with the artisan flour and some very finely ground flax seeds (about 4 c flour to 1/2 c flax, before grinding). Came out great, and went well with the cocido.

For everyone affected by this blizzard in the NE, please stay safe and stay warm. My office closed at 1pm and I'm now safely at home. The roads and sidewalks are treacherous and its just started to pick up in intensity.

No snow here, but below 0 temperatures again for the next couple of days. My gas bill for this month is going to be the highest one I have ever had.
