Thanks, Amy, for your words of encouragement. I do know that it could be worse. Don't really mean to whine here.

FWIW, I really enjoyed the rehab time - after the first two weeks of pain. Every day after that I got stronger and the pain became less; at six weeks, life was good and at eight weeks I was back to normal. Except for lack of strength in that arm 'it was all good". Do the physio and don't rush it despite how good you might feel. The real key at weeks 6-8 is to remember that the lack of pain DOES NOT indicate complete healing. The tissue needs a full eight weeks to repair.

I had simulataneous right elbow and shoulder surgery for 6 'items'. :(

Back to the 6 week thingy - that's the major reason men relapse. Mean are idiots, so when the pain is gone they equate that with 'healed' - it ain't so; ask any medico or physio.

At 8 weeks I started using my arm again in training with my trainer; I could lift one pound but not 1.5 pounds!! 1.5 felt like every fiber was tearing apart - lovely... Now, I regularly do 35 pound curls in each arm 3x/week - no pain.

Think of wine as an internal salve - a balm, if you will :D

For both my shoulder and my wrist (multiple breaks, plates put in) it took me a full year to feel "normal". Your surgery is a lot less complex than that, but don't hold yourself to a time frame. Just keep bustin' your butt in PT. That is truly the key. And do your home exercises. With both of my injuries I worked really hard outside of my PT sessions, and each of my therapists are convinced that's the reason I healed so well.

Kathy....following my shoulder surgery someone gave me a tip I will pass on to you....take two Advil ( or whatever you like) about twenty minutes before your therapy session....you will tolerate it much better.
