Just got back from volunteering @ the annual event for the Greenwich House in NYC. Huge food event and my job was to assist in the book signing area. Best thing E.V.E.R....Sara Moulton was the guest chef/author signing copies of her newest c/b, "Sara Moulton's Everyday Family Dinners". Just 2 of us were her assistants. A dream come true! So good.

And the food @ the event, delicious doesn't even begin to describe it. 100 NYC restaurants participated. Highlights that I can remember (I've forgotten their descriptions, of course, so please bear with my less than stellar descriptions): Caviar served on egg salad but was made to resemble a cheesecake with crumb topping. Brownies served with red wine - you were instructed to take a small bite of the brownie before sipping. Wow, wow, wow. Poached chicken, crab and asian slaw - one of my early favs. Fluke on fresh chip w/mango and some really good puree. Cayenne chocolate bar (to die for). Figs wrapped in bacon w/balsamic honey glaze. Pineapple Upside cake from Gotham Grill - wow. I wish I had taken notes and restaurant names of those I didn't recognize. Didn't taste all such as Hill Country BBQ, Craft, and a few others that looked too heavy.

I posted a blurry photo of me with Sara on FB but don't know how to translate to here. I also was gifted a copy of her cookbook but didn't get it until the book signing was over. No worries though. It was such a great experience that I intend to do again.

Nance,

Sounds like fun.

For the FB pictures, you need to somehow make them world-viewable to link them here.

I'll do that Josh. Will try to work on that tomorrow even though its a poorly taken photo.

I'm also surprised by how TV really changes appearances in height. I knew weight/girth but never expected the extreme differences in height. Sara M is smaller than me and I'm 5'0". I met/saw many others but Ellie Krieger was the biggest shock. She is almost 6ft tall which is absolutely not what she appears on camera. Very, very pretty, reminiscent of a young Mia Farrow.

And there were so many more. What fun :)

Early in her career, Sara worked for Julia Child. In one of JC's cookbooks (JC and Company?) there is a photo with both Sara & Julia. Sara at 4 foot something and Julia at 6 foot something.

What you said about perception in TV is true. But it is a created perception. Each of them had sets designed for their height. Julia's counters were all raised, and Sara's counters were all lowered.

I can't get the photo to post after 2 tries. Keep getting an error message "It is not possible to determine the dimensions of the image". Link to Picasa is below.

I was wrong. It worked!!! You can click on the link above and see the very fuzzy photo of me and SM from last night.
