Tim,

Cheapest way to get a solid aluminum heat diffuser (but not for the timid):

1) Buy a cheap beatup large pot, at a flea market or thrift store, with a 3-ply disk bottom. These can be had for as little as $3.

2) Put the pot on the stove, empty, for a couple hours at medium heat. It will heat up and begin to warp.

3) Turn the heat off.

4) The 3-ply bottom will warp back, and the three layers will separate. The middle layer is an aluminum disk.

Use and enjoy!

(No, I wouldn't know anyone whose wife followed the above recipe by accident. Why do you ask?)

Okay Tim,

I'm lusting after your copper pot. I have one I use at work to do sugar work, and omg, it's just so much better than anything else. Perhaps after I get my chamber vacuum, I'll spring for one.

I have a serious cookware addiction.

I've stomped all over the damn house looking for my tiara that Tim so sweetly bestowed on me. It's a bit crooked, but I felt the urge to wear it whilst admiring my pudgy countenance and forming an opinion of Tim's noble, but misguided, rant of AC's perceived shortcomings.

In AC's defense:
Can be used as a mirror...see above.
Makes a good paperweight.
When waved about properly(different wrist flick than a scepter requires) keeps Rod in line
Hasn't warped yet on me old hotpoint

Now, seeing as how I don't have any fancy pants Mauviel, sometimes I time boiling water in my Cristal pans, ala Pierre Franney, circa 80's, that were bestowed upon me for free. :D

pss.. If I ever get to Zabars, I suspect I would have DeNiro moment

Crystal, if you need any help polishing your tiara I would be most obliged to assist!

I just looked at the prices for Mauviel and, well, yikes! I'm so glad DH bought me an entire 2.5mm Mauviel Cuprinox (now called M'Heritage) set several years ago, along with a few extra pieces. I have 1, 2, 3, 4 qt saucepans, 1 qt Windsor, 8-inch skillet, 10-inch skillet and 3 qt saute pan. There's no way we could justify that purchase now.
