Sad....as is any fire, just glad the building was empty. I ate in the upstairs many years ago....a memorable experience.

Thanks, Alina; I hadn't bothered to check it.

Yeah, we've been having a scary number of fires in the Bay Area lately. I really need to update our apartment inventory for insurance ...

Fuzzy, use your camera as well as a written inventory. You'd be amazed at what gets left off a written inventory.

TOTALLY AGREE! We arrange home insurance for all of our clients and if they can't be bothered to photograph the contents or video it, I will do it for them for free.

Actually, I was planning on pictures mainly. A written inventory would take forever.

However, we do need to catalog our books. No insurer is ever going to believe that we have over 1000 books in the apartment without a detailed inventory.

As a former librarian, you can shorten this task by just entering your ISBNs. I would suggest confirming the sufficiency of this with your insurer. If good, then one person types while the other enters. The main exception, or adjunct, would be for any that are collectible for which multiple photos should be mandatory, at least. Really valuable ones deserve a profesional appraisal.

Wino,

Actually, I have a scanning program which scans book bar codes and enters them into GoodReads. However, it only works on my phone so it's been slow going to enter them all; we have to do it when I don't otherwise need my phone.
