I have been visiting friends in NYC and last night they took me Per Se, Thomas Keller's New York version of The French Laundry....the food, service and ambiance like nothing I have ever experienced. Feeling very fortunate to have had such a lovely evening, I
but may not be able to eat anything for a few days. It was a three hour extraganza with food just ccoming. Each course was spectacular, but my favorite was the sea scallop wrapped in applewood smoked bacon....simple but extrodinary.

Jealous! I was supposed to go to Per Se and the week before our reservation the infamous fire caused them to close down for around six months. One day...

Amy

P.S. Hope you're in NYC until the end of the week. Denver's supposed to get snow tomorrow.

It sounds great. If you get a chance, how about some details about some of the other courses and service.

Here is the chef's tasting menu that I ate.
Oysters and Pearls....pearl tapioca, oysters and caviar
Caramelized butternut squash with honey poached cranberries
Sautéed fillet of Lubina
Maine sea scallop
Poached quinea hen
Lamb rib eye
Broccoli velouté with with Weston Wheel cheese
Prickly pear granita
Pomegranate soda with lime bar and peppermint ice cream
Various handmade chocolates and cookies with coffee
And take home package of shortbread cookies with ganache filling.

Plus they served two amuse bouche ....one a mini puff filled with warm gruyere and the other a pastry cornet filled with salmon tartare and creme fraiche.

Every course was beautifully presented with many accompaniments and explained by the most competent service staff I have ever experienced.

That sounds amazing. Maybe someday I'll be in NY with someone rich enough to treat me. One can always dream.

That sounds just wonderful, and would also love to go someday. Next time I go to New York I think I'll splurge. I wonder how far ahead the common-folk have to book.
