That sounds like something that I have considered growing - Pineapple tomatillo, which is probably a synonym. What do you do with those? Pineapple is a favorite fruit of mine, and the flavor is great in many savory SE Asian dishes that I have made. And I have used regular tomatillos in some Thai curries and similar dishes - non-traditional, but delicious.

Are those ground cherries sweet, or tart? Do you wait until they get ripe to harvest, so they get sweet?

And if those ground cherries are like tomatillos in another way, you won't have to start them from seed next year - simply look for volunteers in the garden! I only had one seedling from the 3 pots I planted seeds in, and that plant is almost 3' tall now! But a couple of weeks ago, I dug up some voluntees, and planted them under the trellis, and they are about a foot tall, and getting flowers already.

Dave,

Yes, its the same plant. Mostly you just eat them like berries. Particularly because the fruits don't all ripen at once; its hard to collect enough to cook with.

I have a planter that I use to grow Cherry Tomatoes. This year, I thought I was nurturing a plant that came up from seed only to find out it's a tree.

Well, my wife is really into wildlife gardening this year. She has already bought AMERICAN BURNWEED Plant home.
