I dug up my lemongrass today - latest date ever - and it is all ready for the freezer. I only kept 3 of 5 plants (I gave my Filipino mailman one, and I'm sending most of one to my friend in Vermont, who is also going to try to grow some inside), yet I still have 105 stalks, and didn't even bother with the very small ones, as I usually end up throwing them away when the new batch goes in the freezer (I really wish there was somebody local that cooked Thai...I may try a restaurant that somebody told me has more Thai food [not something I find out!]). It lasts forever when foodsavered, as do many things.

And to think, all these grew from 5 rooted stalks! And I only needed three, but I like to be safe.

Dave,

Wow. I can't get lemongrass to grow at all in SF. Too foggy and chilly, it just dwindles and eventually dies.

Did you get ant of that snow today, Kathy? Hopefully it didn't weight down your lettuce, if it did get over that far.

Dave
It was very light here. Very wet snow some rain. I haven't checked under the cover, but I don't think there is any damage.

Just checked. Towels were soaked so I put dry towels on it. Still looks perky. Hope it lasts because it is so nice to have garden lettuce at this time of the yr.

Pepperhead:

I remember the time a bunch of us walked into a Thai restaurant in Philly carrying stalks of your lemongrass. The manager's eyes about popped out...

I remember him asking if we had come to cook for him, with all those fresh herbs, and was amazed at those lime leaves, which, back then, the restaurant owners couldn't even get on a regular basis.

Glad you weren't in that group that got 4-5" of snow. I didn't get any, but a lot of rain, so I am glad I dug that lemongrass when I did.
