I bought a mint plant I've never seen before - ginger mint. Sort of a spicy flavor but I can't identify ginger in it. It's pretty small now. Maybe when it grows some. I've planted various kinds of mint in a strawberry pot before and had pretty good luck. May try that again this year.

The chocolate mint is delicious.

So, I finally bought Chocolate Mint today. It IS delicious, straight from the plant. What else have you done with it??

I got some chocolate mint again, as well as some ginger mint, and this year I pulled the mint out of about half of my patch, and churned it all up with my Mantis, then pulled as much of the roots out as I could see, then put in the two new kinds, which I separated (hopefully!) from the spearmint with some vertical sections, about 2' deep (it seemed the spearmint only went about a foot deep), which I cut out of some old chairmats. A lot of trouble, but hopefully it will keep them apart, and I'll keep pulling out any signs of spearmint popping up. I figured only half of the spearmint was still more than I would ever use, so time for some new.

*Bump*.

How do you use chocolate mint? The leaves taste delicious on their own but I'm not getting any creative vibes as to how to use in salads/cooking/baking. Anyone have any experiences to share?

Dave, how do you use ginger mint? I planted one. It's growing fine but has no flavor at all that I can tell. Does it improve as it grows?

I really don't know about the ginger mint, but when I crushed one of the leaves to see what it smelled like before I got it, it definitely had a ginger aroma, in addition to the mint. I figured that it would probably be good in some of those oriental dishes I make that call for a lot of mint tossed in at the end, as ginger would be good in those, too. I'm just going to experiment, once I get enough of it.

I bet ginger mint would also be great on fruit salad, especially one with lots of melon.

I think it would be great steeped in a custard base for icecream. I had a ricotta chocolate mint pie at a cooking class once and she steeped regular mint. A little went a long way.

My other thought is chocolate martinis. ;-)
